Plugable Products Tested and Approved for the Apple M5 MacBook Pro
Product Leadership | October 24, 2025
This week Apple released the new M5 MacBook Pro. We’ve been testing our new MacBook since release day and are happy to report compatibility is great across our product line. Our product-by-product test results and links can be viewed below!
Apple’s latest processor iterates on the previous generation providing better multithread and GPU performance, increased memory bandwidth and upscaled AI compute performance. The system also includes macOS 26 Tahoe with new Liquid Glass transparent menu bars and elements taking advantage of the increased graphics performance of this processor.
The new M5 MacBook Pro continues to feature three Thunderbolt 4 ports, matching the base M4 configuration. It does not include Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, which remains exclusive to models equipped with the M4 Pro and M4 Max chips. We anticipated that there would be little change to device compatibility between base M4 and M5 MacBook Pro systems but we are still confirming, through direct testing, a wide array of our devices with this newest MacBook Pro.
Our test system included a 70W USB Type-C power adapter and dark, braided-sleeved USB Type-C to Apple MagSafe cable instead of the classic white USB Type-C to Type-C charging cable included with previous generations of MacBook. With some of our USB Power Passthrough docking stations and hubs a separate USB Type-C charging cable may be necessary to power the hub and computer, for example our new USB Type-C 1-meter and 2-meter Charge Only cables (USBC-CC1M and USBC-CC2M) - these cables pass USB Power Delivery charging negotiations and power only.
Below, you can find a list of some of our most popular products and information regarding whether the device was tested compatible or if issues were found. Plugable’s testing was performed on the M5 MacBook Pro 13-inch, and based on our extensive experience testing previous generations of Apple Silicon, we expect these same compatibility results to apply to future M5 “Pro” and “Max” MacBooks as well.
